CNN is a Fucking Disgrace

I knew this guy in law school. Nice guy. Friendly, easy to get along with. A year behind me. From Hays, Kansas. Liked poker. One weekend when I was headed up to play poker at AC and Connecticut he came along.

However, being from the middle of Kansas, he was a Rush Limbaugh fan. He referred to CNN as the "Clinton News Network." Now, don't get me wrong, I have openly and repeatedly mocked this guy for his insane beliefs. I wasn't just quiet.

But I was thinking about the "Clinton News Network" when I saw this breathtaking bit of GOP teabaggery on the front page of CNN.com.

Let's get this straight. On the very day that AP releases exclusive video showing how President Bush blatantly lied about "nobody could have anticipated the breach of the levees" (the video shows him a) being briefed on exactly this strong possibility and b) not asking a single question and c) simply telling everyone that the federal government was prepared), CNN decides instead to portray the story not of one man's evil and incompetence, but of the exact opposite conservative bullshit story: Government is bad. Government is the source of all your problems. It wasn't Bush's fault, it was the Democrats in Louisiana that were to blame too (because all government failed). Wow, CNN really wants to protect Bush and tell the opposite story of the bombshell, damning smoking gun released today.

Congratulations, Clinton News Network. You officially are deep throating one of the world's most all-time dangerous coalitions - Republican officials and Americans who vote for Republicans. Evil assholes, all. And you want to rim them. Fuck you, CNN. Where's your blue dress, you motherfuckers?

That the Republicans get away with this is partially the Democrats fault. They have no ability to brand or be clever or come up with witty "If it doesn't fit, you must aquit" little lines. Branding is not hard. Think of 5 words and repeat over and over and over again. Simple. Hillary got it "Vast, right wing conspiracy"

No one should ever say Katrina again. It should be "The Repulican failure to respond to Katrina." There is no Abramoff scandal, it is the Republican corruption/bribery scandal. The Dubai Poirts thing is the Republican sale of national security to the highest bidder.

Yes, CNN is a disgrace. But the presance of an opposition party would possibly slow the race to see who can out-FOX FOX first.

One other thought. I saw the Sara Vowell interview on the Daily Show last night (Tivo'd) and while it wasn't a great interview (she is really funny on NPR), she had one great line about how when Bush was elected, she was afraid he'd wreck the economy and pollute the air. A failure of her creastive pessimism.

Its sort of that way with Bush and the his GOP courtisans. He is so horrible that new horrible things he does are not newsworthy. Everyone in America knows he was lieing about Katrina long before the videotape. Everyone knows he knew about Valarie Plame. Everyone knows the WMD was bullshit. That is not news.

What I cannot wrap my brain around is why we stand for it? No GOP anything should have a rating above Bush's 35%. We should clear them out in the election. But we are stupid and we won't.

Fuck. Now I am depressed.
